Every year in December or January, you can find me in my spare time reading a few Christmas books. Learn all about starting this tradition for yourself.
It was December 26th, and Christmas was over, and I still wanted it to continue. So, I picked up the Christmas book I had on my shelf, and read it between Christmas to New Year’s. Who wants to go anywhere when it’s cold out? I read a few books, and I loved them. I was hooked, and it has become a personal tradition.
When to Read Christmas Books
Read your Christmas Books before Christmas if you have time. You may be able to squeeze a book in if you have a slower Christmas season. If not, try reading after Christmas into January. While the tree is still up, consider it your reading time at night or in the morning. It’s chilly, so turn on the fireplace and get yourself a cup of tea. My favorite way to read is in the bathtub.
Christmas Book Options
The books I am talking about are all fictional. I like the inspirational fiction Christmas books. There are plenty of choices at the library, so you don’t even have to buy any new books. Of course, you can listen to audiobooks or read on a Kindle.
Some of the authors who have many Christmas books include Lynn Austin, Karen Kingsbury, and Melody Carlson, just a few authors I know off the top of my head.

New Book Ideas to Purchase
All Talk is about the “Christmas Ring” book by Karen Kingsbury because it is also a movie in 2025. Read the book first, and then watch the movie. This is on my to-read list.

Karen has also written “Baxter Family Christmas”, which is a stand-alone book. If you have read the Baxter Family series books and understand the family, you will like this book even more.
Author Lynn Austin has two short novellas about Christmas. They were part of her first books, but can be stand-alone books. They are short and fun to read. I received both of these as gifts and did enjoy the adventure they both brought to historical fiction. The titles are “Waiting for Christmas” and “The Wish Book Christmas”.

Books My Librarian Sister Recommends
“Baby, it’s cold outside” by Susan May Warren

“A Red Bird Christmas” by Fannie Flagg

“The Christmas Spirit” by Debbie Macomber

“Catching Christmas” by Terri Blackstock

“Christmas by the Book” by Anne Marie Ryan

Book Ideas From the Library
If you are going to the library, you cannot go wrong reading any of Melody Carlson’s Christmas books. She must have over 10 books to choose from. One of my favorite Christmas reads is “The Christmas Joy Ride.

I read these Christmas books by this author this season: “The Gift of Christmas Present”, “The Christmas Shop”, and “A Simple Christmas”. “A Simple Christmas” was my favorite out of the three, all by Melody Carlson.

Robin Jones Gunn wrote “Finding Father Christmas” and “Engaging Father Christmas”. These were the books I was referring to at the beginning of this blog. I pulled the first of the series off my shelf, and I had to read the next one.
They were written a while back and were eventually made into Hallmark movies. I have seen one of them and hope to see the rest sometime in the future. If you enjoy reading about England, you will likely appreciate these books.
There you go- find the author and the Christmas book. You may be able to read one book a week as you snuggle in for the season into January—head to the Library or the bookstore, and Happy Reading.
