How I Got Started- The Story Behind My Blog

It was 2018 and I wrote a short kid’s picture book and met with a local literacy publicist I knew and was learning more about publishing.  This conversation opened the can of writing worms.

We talked, and I discovered a whole world of writing that I wanted to enter in whatever way it would take me. If you want to publish any book you need to develop a platform or community of people and become educated in the whole process at conferences and online courses.

Start a Blog

First, start a blog to build a platform or a community.   A blog was something I had been thinking about doing at least three years before that conversation and didn’t know where to start. I guess that was all I needed was a kick in the pants and within two months I was off on the blogging adventure.

Now as I look back, I wish I would have asked a few more questions and did a little more research about blogging before I jumped into it.  I figured I would learn as I go and improve my writing as I go and that is exactly where I am at.

It’s a slow go and because I only had a short-term mentor it’s been even slower.  I figure God’s timing is always perfect for wherever this blogging is going. I have goals but sometimes my goals are not the same as God’s goals.

The Story Behind My Blog

My Blog Name

As a Dietitian, I didn’t want to write about Food only, because I love variety in life. The same thing over and over makes me bored. I looked at all the areas I enjoyed and Faith, Food, Family, and Fun were the topics I would cover at my table. When you gather around a table you talk about most anything. Yes, Dabill does rhyme with table and that’s why I call it Dabillaroundthetable.

Writing a Book Dream

In my free time, I write kids’ books and had a few editors look at them, and even sent out a few query letters to agents.   They are still on my computer and need to be refined and edited and changed before they will ever become a published book. I am a dreamer.

You see, I never realized that the books that get published are like the best of the best of the best.   You may think a book is good but 100 plus people need to think it is great before it gets published.

There is nothing new in ideas it’s just how you frame it, make it creative, and make it yours. This is what gets you published. As I mentioned before you need to have a platform of people who will support you and read your book. I am an all-or-nothing girl so in my mind it’s traditional publishing or no book at all.

Dream Big

Non-Fiction Books

Since the children’s book ideas are sitting in a file, I have considered some non-fiction books, but they are now mostly outlines and ideas in files on my computer.   So many pieces of the puzzle need to come together to publish books through traditional publishing.

Writing Blogs for You

As I write about 45 plus blogs a year, I learn, I grow, I educate, inspire, I plan, and have fun.  It has been this blog that got me through some major changes in my life. This blog is my purpose and therapy.   I loved being loyal to you, my readers, and making sure you have something to read, learn, and of course, some new recipes to try.

Finally, I want to make your life more enjoyable, give you ideas, tips, and recipes by sharing blogs on Faith, Food, Family, Fun, and Favorites.   You need variety as a reader to enrich your life and learn new things.
